The park is officially named McFerson Commons Park in honor of Andrew Jackson McFerson, who dedicated and funded the park as part of his commitment to the city. As a devoted community activist and philanthropist, McFerson gave much of his life to Columbus and its citizens. His legacy continues with the park being named in his honor and a statue of himself located in the center of the park. The park itself is composed of a variety of features. In the center stands the grand statue of McFerson, along with a sprawling and landscaped garden. The large park also features a bandstand for concerts, a play area for children, a skatepark, and a riverwalk along the Scioto River. The park has something for everyone, from the expert skateboarder to the park-goers enjoying the beauty of its gardens and flowers. The park is open year-round for visitors, with different events and festivals held throughout the year.
